regula rüegg photography
Regula Rüegg was born in Switzerland and taught German there for many years. Since coming to New York in 2004, she has been an avid photographer, and in 2009 started curating the annual summer art show at Deutsches Haus@NYU. Her work has been exhibited in Switzerland, Germany, and the United States. She has been teaching at Deutsches Haus@NYU since 2007. Since 2022 she started stone carving again, with Ailene Fields in New York.
Photography is a way of noticing our surroundings. She is especially interested in the unspectacular events and small shifts in everyday life. Every morning waking up to the same view out of the window – yet every morning is different. Variation in everyday life is mostly imperceptible, being the background for the more important things. In writing or taking photos, those changes become visible as variations of the well-known.
